The President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili opened today the Rikotsky tunnel which has been renovated recently News-Georgia reports. The tunnel connects the eastern and western parts of the country.
The President personally inspected the work, after having walked the entire length of the tunnel which is 1750 meters.
The road has been paved with asphalt, using the latest technology. The waterproofing system, ventilation, fire and sewer systems have been upgraded and electricity has been istalled.
The renovation of Rikotsky tunnel, located on the 142 km of the Tbilisi-Senaki-Leselidze highway began in March 2011.
