Turkey to begin oil prospecting in Northern Cyprus in 2-3 months

The Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) will begin ground seismic hydrocarbons research in Northern Cyprus in the next 2-3 months, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz said, Trend reports referring to Sabah newspaper.

TPAO and Shell oil companies signed the agreement on joint exploration and production of oil and gas in the Mediterranean on November 23.

The exploration work will be carried out in on the territory of the generally unrecognized Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

These operations are Ankara's response to the similar work carried out by the Republic of Cyprus in Mediterranean Sea in late September.
