All agreements on gas transportation from Shah Deniz ratified

BP, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan and BOTAŞ have ratified a package consisting of 14 agreements that support the full development of the Shah Deniz gas fields, Trend reports.

The agreements were signed one month prior to ratification during the meeting of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Izmir.

"These agreements provide a legal framework for the sale of gas from Shah Deniz to Turkey and its transportation via Turkey to the European markets from 2017. That is why these documents are a step towards the opening of the Southern Gas Corridor to transport gas from the Caspian region to Europe," a BP spokesperson said.

A few days before the ratification of the agreements, BP president Bob Dudley met in Ankara with Recep Tayyip Erdogan to discuss oil and gas issues. He also held talks with Turkish President Abdullah Gul, Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan and Energy Minister Taner Yildiz.

"Turkey plays an important role in ensuring energy security. This country is going to become a regional energy transit country, and I'm proud that BP has the opportunity to collaborate with the government to assist in the implementation of these goals," Dudley said.
