Alitalia to open direct air service Rome-Tbilisi

Alitalia, Italy’s largest air company, plans to open regular flights from Rome to Tbilisi, Trend reports.


Alitalia held negotiations on the issue with the managing company of the Tbilisi International Airport, TAV Georgia, Trend reports.


Flights will be carried out twice a week. Ticket prices are yet to be set in the next months.


The initiative is a new Georgian step towards tourism development. Georgia only used to have transit flights to Italy.


The Georgian air market has seen arrival of such companies to the market this year as Air Astana, China Southern Airlines, Ural Airlines, Taban Air, Fly Dubai, Air Cargo. Qatar Airways will start service in February 2010.
