Armenian opposition concerned with budget waste by ruling party

Armenian opposition fraction Heritage is concerned with waste of tax funds collected in 2012 on electoral campaign of the ruling Republican Party, a member of the opposition fraction Armen Martirosyan said at the parliament, ARKA reports.


The Armenian government prepared a package of bills to increase tax collection by about 100 billion drams in 2012. This includes the luxury tax for vehicles worth above $90,000, an increase of taxes for expensive alcohol drinks by 50%,increase income tax for individuals with an income of 2 million drams by 25% and increased fixed payments of casinos by 50%.


The ruling party said on various occasions that additional income will be spent on education and healthcare and support for economic stability.


The fraction made 152 proposals and only one of them was passed, Martirosyan says. The country has the official poverty level of 35%, but the real level is 60%.


The Heritage has made a total of 500 proposals, 27% of which have been taken into account. Discussions of the state budget project for 2012 were concluded on Tuesday. The budget will have income of 911.6 billion drams, expenses of 1044.1 billion drams, deficit of 132.5 billion drams. Most income comes from taxes – 732 billion drams.
