Tbilisi has concluded construction of a 430-meter railway tunnel of the Gdlan bypass railway, Georgia Online reports.
Tbilisi Mayor Gigi Ugulava said that it is a grand construction which will contribute to development of Georgia. About 80 hectares of land will be made free at the city center.
4 other tunnels will are under construction with a total length of 3500 meters. Moreover, 12 new bridges and a new 40-km railway section are being built. 300 meters of abutment and 14 km of earth bed are being built. The tunnel construction started in the summer of 2010 and will be concluded in 2 months with account of international standards.
There will be no freight trains in the city center in 2013. The railway line between Avchalsky Village and the Lilo Village will run over the Tbilisi Sea. Passengers will use the modernized Didube Stations for the western route and the Navtlugskaya Station for the eastern.
