The Central Bank of Azerbaijan said that the state had received $3.1 billion of direct foreign investments in the first 9 months of 2011, exceeding the same period in 2010 by $836.4 million, 1news.az reports.
77.9% of foreign investments ($1.583 billion) were spent on the oil and gas sector. The highest sums were spent by BP Exploration (Shah Deniz) and the Azerbaijani International Operational Company (AMOC).
$686 million were spent on the non-oil sector of Azerbaijani economy, which is 22.1% of total direct foreign investments.
