Turkmen president calls Turkey a reliable partner

Turkey is one of the most reliable partners of Turkmenistan for their trade-economic ties, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said at an exhibition of Turkish export products in Ashkhabad on Wednesday, Trend reports.

The two states have over 100 interstate, intergovernmental and intersectorial deals.

The Turkmen-Turkish intergovernmental commission discussed improvement of cooperation in the trade-energy and agricultural spheres, transport, science and innovations.

Turkmenistan mainly exports products of the textile, petroleum, chemical and agricultural industries. Turkey exports metals, metal products, household goods, construction materials, electric equipment, products of the chemical and light industries, food, transport and medications.

The two states had a trade turnover of $341 million in 2005 and about $3 billion in 2010. Turkmenistan has over 600 Turkish companies registered and operating in trade, investments, construction and the energy, textile and processing industries.

Turkmenistan and Turkey are both interested in transporting gas to Europe. They are considering construction of a gas pipeline through the Caspian Sea and connecting it to Nabucco.

Turkish Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Turkmenistan Shevki Mutevellioglu said in early November that Turkey supports projects for transport of Turkmen energy carriers to Europe. Turkmenistan has the world’s fourth largest gas reserves, after Russia, Iran and Qatar. Turkmenistan has gas pipelines connected with China, Russia and Iran.
