Russia and Turkey to expand gas cooperation

Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller and Turkish Minister for Energy Taner Yildiz met in Ankara and discussed a wide range of gas issues, 1news.az reports.

Miller and Yildiz noted successful exploitation of the Blue Stream Gas Pipeline. Turkey praised Russia for the readiness of Gazprom to cover gas deficits for local consumers if necessary. The sides agreed on expansion of medium-term and long-term cooperation and set the basic commercial conditions and volumes of gas supply from Russia to Turkey in 2012.

Botas informed Gazprom in autumn 2011 that it would not prolong the deal on Russian gas transport through Ukraine, Romania and Bulgaria due to disagreements on proportions of discounts. Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yildiz said that the deal was cancelled. Gas prices had increased by 39% in the last 29 months, he says.
