Iran to build new power plant at Kish Island

Mahmoud Zirakchiyan-zade, Director General of the Iranian Petroleum Company of the Continental Shelf, said that a gas power plant will be built on the Island of Kish in the Gulf, Iran News reports.

A contract was signed with the Iranian Company for Management of Power Plant Construction. The power plant will produce 3,000 MW at the first stage and will reach an output of 6,000 MW later on. The power plant will use the resources of the island.

The director general noted that the natural gas on the Kish Island is not only consumed by the domestic market, but also exported to neighboring states, including the UAE, Oman and Pakistan. Gas processing into electricity would contribute to development of the shelf, he said.
