EU and British officials have convinced US lawmakers that anti-Iranian sanctions would not affect the Shah Deniz-2 gas project, operated by BP, APA reports.
The British Foreign Office, EU and BP requested US guarantees that the new sanctions against Iran would not block the Shah Deniz-2 projects and monitor the proposals of congressmen which may affect the project in 2012.
The House of Representatives and the US Senate show common grounds on the point that the sanctions would be the hardest economic strike on Iran without leaving Russia as the only gas supplier of Eastern Europe.
Naftiran Intertrade Co. is an Iranian company, holder of 10% of shares of the project. BP and Norways Statoil ASA are the main shareholders with 25.5% of shares each.
