Russia takes third position in investments in Georgia

 

Constantine Porchkhidze, an authority of the For a Fair Georgia party, discussed processes in the energy sector of Georgia, Business Georgia reports.

The official said that some strategic facilities in Georgia had been sold to Russian companies. As an example, Porchkhidze mentioned Inter RAO, a Russian company that gains 5-10% more profit in Georgia than it does in Russia.The company plans to enter the Turkish market, where electricity prices are two times more costly than in Georgia.

The company purchased infrastructure and three power plants in March 2011. Inter RAO won a tender for dam construction from Energo-pro for $62.3 million. It is investing $115.6 million in construction of a dam with an output of 100 MW.

The politician noted that the Russian company is also in control of the water systems of Tbilisi and dams and Jinvali, under the management of Andrey Rappoport, Vice-President of RAO UES.

Russian investment in Georgia increased 5-fold in 2010, compared with 2009. Russia is the third biggest investor in Georgia, after the US and the Netherlands.
