The European Union has selected 16 social projects to finance in Azerbaijan. They will receive about $3.4 million, 1news.az reports.
Rolan Kobia, head of the EU mission in Azerbaijan, signed contracts to finance the projects.
The projects include helping people in need, such as the handicapped, support for human rights activists, and provision of information about the local business environment.
The EU ambassador said that the projects will be realized in all Azerbaijani regions. Two instruments were used to select the projects: the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR) and Non-Governmental Structures (NSA). The two instruments financed 20 projects with 4.7 million euro in 2007.
