Kuwait develops plan in case Hormuz Strait is blocked

Faruk Al-Zanki, Chief Executive Director of the Kuwait Oil Corporation, said on Sunday that Kuwait had developed a plan of counter-measures in case the Strait of Hormuz is blocked, Xinhua reports.

The official said that the country extracted 2.9-3 million barrels of oil daily in January 2012. Kuwait is trying to maintain stability on the international oil market via regular oil supplies.

Kuwait holds about 10% of world oil reserves. 95% of state income comes from oil exports. Kuwait is on the north-east of the Arabian Peninsula, most exports go through the Strait of Hormuz.
