Belarusian members of the Inter-parliamentary Commission on Cooperation
between the National Assembly of Armenia and Belarus studied the work of
the Armenian NPP. "We are following your steps. We started the construction
of our Belarusian nuclear power plant, and would like to one more time to
make sure by your example that it is a necessary and essential thing. It is
a matter of national security and energy security - an integral part of
national security," the co-chairman Viktor Huminski said during the sixth
meeting of the commission in Yerevan, PanARMENIAN.Net reports.
He said that they want to convey to their voters in the Republic of
Belarus that nuclear power is safe. The Armenian nuclear power plant has a
capacity of 1000 MW. It will be located near the town of Metsamor (about
30-40 km west of Yerevan). The station was commissioned in 1976. At the
moment only the second block with a capacity of 407.5 MW is operating,
producing about 40-50% of electricity in the country.
