Iran to pay for Russian grain in rubles

Iran is conducting talks with Russian traders on purchasing grain in rubles. Over the past two weeks, Iran has bought 1.1 million tons of grain. For comparison, in the course of tenth months in 2011 the country bought only 3.7 million tons. Earlier, Western media reported that there are unloaded cargo ships with grain in Iranian ports, since Iranian companies cannot pay for the goods.

According to sanctions introduced by EU, U.S. and UN, the accounts of Iranian banks and financial organizations in these countries have been frozen. The same applies to all financial institutions (not necessarily Iranian), cooperating with the Central Bank of Iran. Experts believe that first of all the sanctions affect traders, bankers, marine transportation companies and insurers.
