SOCAR Georgia Gaz starts management of Adjara gas pipelines

The Ministry of Finance and Economy of Adjara has handed SOCAR Georgia Gaz control over gas pipelines built in the villages of Bobokvati, Khutsubani, Kveda Sameba and Ochkhamuri, Trend reports.

The company will manage the system for 49 years. It will launch the pipelines in 6 months. The ministry says there could be no exploitation without the support of SOCAR Georgia Gaz.

Besides the gas pipeline in Kobuleti, the company was given control over the 11-kilometer line in the Khelvachaursky Municipality. SOCAR Georgia Gaz will fulfil its duties by spring 2013.

SOCAR Georgia Gaz built 1281 km of gas pipelines and provided access for 74,398 consumers in Georgia in 2009-2011.

Azerbaijan and Georgia signed a deal on activation of SOCAR in the Georgian market in November 2008. It will operate for the next 5 years, starting in 2009. SOCAR Georgia Gaz is a subsidiary of SOCAR.

SOCAR and the Georgian government signed a deal on management of 30 gas-distribution facilities and networks in late December 2008.
