Japan plans to continue importing Iranian oil despite sanctions imposed by the US and EU against Tehran, Japanese Ambassador to Iran Kinichi Kumano said, Iran News reports.
The diplomat said that Japan is interested in developing trade-economic cooperation with Iran.
Earlier reports said that US officials attempted to persuade Japan to join EU sanctions against Iranian petroleum industry and banking. EU states will end their petroleum imports from Iran on July 1.
