Most candidates for Armenian parliament are businessmen

The ruling Republican Party of Armenia is proposing candidates for parliament according to majority districts. Most of its candidates for the polls on May 6 are businessmen, News Armenia reports.

This includes Artak Sarkisyan, owner of the SAS supermarket network, Samvel Aleksanyan, a major businessman, Karekin Nushikyan, President of the Nushikyan Association, Alekpan Petrosyan, owner of the Map alcohol company, and many other entrepreneurs. The Republican Party will put forward 33 candidates in 33 of the 41 majority districts.

Karen Karapetyan, former head of the Presidential administration, will represent the party. Samvel Farmanyan, director of information and analytical programs of the Public Television of Armenia and former press secretary of the Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, and Edik Grigoryan, a historian, are the non-business representatives of the party.

The RPA will compete with Prosperous Armenia in certain districts.

The Dashnaktsutyun opposition party has only one candidate to offer, Orinats Yerkir, Heritage and the Armenian National Congress have not introduced any candidates yet.

The Armenian CEC started receiving documents for parliamentary polls on March 12. The process will end on March 22.
