Azerbaijan and Serbia to ratify credit agreement

Azerbaijan has become a creditor, as stated by Ziyad Samedzade, the chairman of the committee for economic policy, Trend reports.

The parliamentary session Samedzade attended discussed the credit agreement Azerbaijan and Serbia signed on February 1, 2012. Azerbaijan issued a loan for Serbia worth €300 million for 15 years, with a 3-year beneficial period, at an interest rate of 4% annually for construction of roads in Serbia.

Azerbaijan realizes investment projects in Turkey, Russia, Moldova and other states, Samedzade said.

MP Vakhid Ahmedov said that Azerbaijan has enough monetary reserves to realize the initiative. The cheaper euro makes the assets of the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan drop, which is why Azerbaijan should take part in such projects.

Sakhil Babayev, head of a section of the Ministry for Economic Development, said that the deal serves Azerbaijani interests.

The Azerbaijani contractor is AzVirt, the Serbian is Corridor Serbia, a state company for road construction.
