Reconstruction of dams at the Zonkarsky Water Reservoir of the Tskhinvali District of South Ossetia is about to end, executive hydro-engineer Sergey Zasseyev said, Res reports.
Remaining work will take about a month. The engineer denied risks of collapse of dams. He said that they replaced old equipment.
Dmitry Pukhayev, Director of Yugservice, a construction company contracting the works, said that work was delayed due to weather conditions. Reconstruction started in November 2011.
The European Union finances the project. The Zonkarsky Water Reservoirs is one of the most complicated hydro facilities in the Caucasus. It is used for irrigation. Its dams are 80 meters tall. Water comes from River Malaya Liakhva.
