BP PLC has classified information on the oil spill at the Gulf of Mexico that happened in 2010, RBC reports.
The District Court of New Orleans received a BP file stating that the US government does not want over 10,000 of documents on leakage from the Deepwater Horizon borehole to be published.
Classified documents may state that the quantities of oil spilled may be much lower than official information. According to the latest information, BP paid $17.6 billion for the accident. The US government is one of the claimants.
The accident happened at the Deepwater Horizon platform on April 20, 2010, caused by a methane explosion. 11 people died. The platform sunk in 2 days. The borehole 1.5 km deep started spilling oil.
BP has spent $8 billion on clearing the ecological damage and paying compensations.
