Bulgaria, US build solar power plants

Premier Power Renewable Energy (US) has started building a solar power plant in Bulgaria at the former coal mines near Zdravets. It will be completed by July 1, Business Georgia reports.

It will have an output of 16.2 MWp. The power plant will get about 30 eurocents of subsidies per kW/h.

The first solar plant in Bulgaria was launched in November 2008 by InterSol. It was built in Ikhtiman near Sofia, producing 1 MWp. It was the biggest solar power plant in South-Eastern Europe 4 years ago. It reduced carbon emissions by 900 tons.

Bulgaria has abandoned two Russian energy projects, the South Stream and construction of the Belene nuclear power plant.
