Iran to build Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Kyrgyzstan-China gas pipeline

 

Iran plans to export gas to Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and China, Iranian Ambassador to Tajikistan Aliasgar Sherdust said, Trend reports on Wednesday.

Iranian and Afghan presidents visited Tajikistan two weeks ago and discussed gas exports. Tajik president requested help from Iran due to lack of gas.

The ambassador said that the sides have been discussing realization of projects for transport of electricity and water for years and signed a deal.

They also plan to build a pipeline to transport water from Tajikistan to Iran through Afghanistan. The sides decided to modernize roads and railways, establish a system for electricity exchange between Iran and Tajikistan. Tajikistan has surplus of electricity in spring and summer, Iran has them in winter. The states will exchange electricity.

Iran assists Tajikistan in constructing the Sangtud-2 dam with an output of 220 MW. It is located 70 km away from Dushanbe. Its first phase was launched in September 2011, producing 110 MW. Iran has invested $240 million in construction of the facility. Another power plant will be built.
