The government of Armenia approved the prolongation of the exploitation of the second energy block of the Armenian nuclear power plant in Metsamor on April 19. Armenian Minister for Energy and Natural Resources Armen Movsisyan noted that the license for the energy block expires on September 1, 2016, but it has been prolonged by 4 years, PanArmenian reports.
Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan stressed that the issue is under regular discussion in the press. The government’s functions are clear. It requested the IAEA to support prolongation of the block’s exploitation. He added that the international organization will provide Armenia with necessary support.
