Bulgaria cannot realize Nabucco

Bulgaria is interested in Azerbaijani gas shipments to Europe through Georgia’s Batumi, ITAR-TASS cites Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov as saying.

Borisov met President of the European Council Herman von Rompuy. They discussed gas transport through Georgia to Varna and Burgas. But Bulgaria cannot realize the Nabucco Gas Pipeline project without financing from the European Investment Bank.

Rompuy confirmed that Hungary scrapped the Nabucco project.

The Nabucco Gas Pipeline will transport gas from the Caspian Sea and the Middle East to EU states.Construction is planned to start in 2013 and first gas supplies are expected in 2017. The pipeline will have a maximum capacity of 31 billion cubic meters annually. The pipeline will be 3900 km long.  OMV (Austria), MOL (Hungary), Bulgargaz (Bulgaria), Transgaz (Romania), Botas (Turkey) and RWE (Germany) are shareholders in the project.
