The European Commission says that the Nabucco Pipeline for gas transport to Europe is not a priority, as stated by Marlen Holzner, press secretary of EU Commissioner for Energy Gunther Oettinger, Trend reports.
Hungary’s MOL announced sales of its share in the project a week ago. Bulgaria said that it cannot realize the project, unless the European Investment Bank grants loans.
Holzner noted that the Southern Gas Corridor has been a priority of the EU to transport gas from the Caspian Sea and the Middle East.
Europe is interested in gas from Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan through the Trans-Caspian Pipeline. The only gas available today belongs to the Shah Deniz-2 Consortium.
The Southern Gas Corridor is a priority project of the EU to diversify energy sources and improve European energy security. The Southern Gas Project includes Nabucco, Trans-Adriatic Gas Pipeline (TAP) and TANAP.
