The EU is ready to invest into the project of the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline, Trend reported citing the special envoy of the EU in Central Asia, Pier Morel.
Morel stated on Monday in Paris at the 12 annual CIS summit on oil and gas that financing of the project by the European Union would be possible in case of full guarantees of environmental security.
Morel also noted that despite the EU doesn’t have any position on the legal status of the Caspian Sea, the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline would be constructed in territorial waters of Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan. Moreover, such a precedent was fixed by treaties between Russia and Kazakhstan on offshore platforms in the north part of the Caspian Sea.
