Turkey will prevent energy exploration on the western shelf of Cyprus consisting of Turkish and Greek parts and will prevent companies taking part in exploration works from implementing energy projects on its territory, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Friday, Trend reports.
"Turkey has repeatedly stated that it would not allow any activities in these areas," the statement reads.
The report said that a license for the exploration of oil and gas resources on the island was given to the Turkish company TPAO by the authorities of Northern Cyprus.
About 30 companies from 15 countries have applied to participate in the tender announced by the Republic of Cyprus to develop its offshore gas fields.
