VKontakte social website blocked in Turkey

Istanbul judges have blocked access to Russian social network VKontakte, RIA Novosti reports.

The Second Court of Istanbul blocked the website on May 2 without giving reasons. YouTube was blocked earlier for a video offending the father of the modern Turkish nation, Ataturk.

About 4 million Russian tourists visit Turkey annually. Turkey cancelled the visa regime for Russians. But blocking the website may aggravate the tourism flow.

VKontakte is the largest Russian social network with over 100 million accounts registered.
