Syria can no longer pay UN fees because of US unilateral sanctions, the Syrian representative in the organization, Bashar Jafari, said at the Fifth Committee of the UN, RIA Novosti reports.
Jafari said that Syria has been unable to finance the UN for the first time since 1945. It bank accounts in New York and Washington was closed. Attempts to open accounts in other banks failed.
The Syrian official requested the UN to resolve the problem, reminding that states with headquarters of international organizations are obliged to allow provide member states with necessary conditions for cooperation.
