Pakistan to build pipeline from Iran despite sanctions

Pakistan is going to continue construction of a pipeline from Iran, despite international sanctions against Tehran and the US urging Pakistan to refrain from implementation of this project, RIA Novosti reports, citing Pakistani media.

"The pipeline project will be implemented despite the sanctions," Pakistani foreign minister Shaha Mehmud Kuresh said.

Meanwhile, US envoy to Pakistan David Hallbruk announced recently that the US Congress is going to pass another law, providing for sanctions against companies cooperating with Iran.

However, Islamabad has clearly stated that this project is of vital importance to the country, as it experiences lack of energy supplies.

It is expected that construction of the pipeline will be completed by 2014.
