Russia and India to build joint military transport plane

Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL, India) and the Russian United Aircraft Engineering Company have signed a framework agreement to build a multi-purpose military transport plane in Bangalore, RIA Novosti reports.

Russia and India formed a joint venture, Multirole Transport Aircraft Ltd, to develop the plane. India’s HAL and Russia’s United Aircraft Engineering Company and Rosoboronexport are also involved.

Russia and India plan to design a plane capable of carrying 15-20 tons of cargo capable of airborne operations. The company will produce 100 planes for Russia, 45 for India and 60 for exports to other states.
