BP representative in Turkey Bud Fackrell (responsible for BP Turkey activities in Azerbaijan and Georgia) said that BOTAS infrastructure may be used for transport of Azerbaijani gas, unless the TANAP Gas Pipeline is ready on time, Trend reports.
Gas transport from Shah Deniz-2 to Europe requires realization of six projects worth a total of $40 billion. It is the largest energy project that needs to be realized.
Azerbaijan and Turkey signed a memorandum of understanding to form the consortium to build a gas pipeline to transport gas from Shah Deniz through Turkey to Europe. BOTAS has a 20% share in TANAP, the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijani Republic has 80%.
The gas pipeline will have a capacity of 16 billion cubic meters annually. About 6 billion cubic meters will be provided for Turkey, the rest for Europe. Azerbaijan is choosing a path for gas exports. Azerbaijan exports gas to Turkey through the South Caucasus Gas Pipeline.
