Putin recognizes Iran’s right to peaceful nuclear energy

Russia supports the right of Iran for peaceful use of nuclear energy and is in touch with Tehran on the nuclear problem, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in Beijing, RIA Novosti reports.

Putin visited China on June 5-6 and attended the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization on June 6-7. The agenda included bilateral meetings with Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Afghan President Hamid Karzai.

The Russian president reminded about the launch of the first Iranian nuclear power plant in Bushehr built with support of Russia, opportunities for cooperation of Caspian states. He expressed hope that the status of the Caspian Sea would be settled in the near future.
