Iranian nuclear talks start in Moscow

Moscow is hosting negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton will meet Iranian Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Said Jalili. Talks will continue for two days, RIA Novosti reports.

Michael Mann, Ashton’s spokesman, said that negotiations with six mediators would be held in normal atmosphere. Talks were split in sessions.

Iran believes that chances for progress are minimal. Mann says that the negotiations in Moscow on June 18-19 would see signing of an agreement. Iran needs to make concessions.

Anti-Iranian sanctions come into force on July 1. Four resolutions of the UN Security Council have been passed against Iran. Foreign ministers of 27 EU states met in Brussels on January 23 and approved the embargo on Iranian oil exports. The new package of sanctions includes a gradual ban on imports of petroleum from Iran. The embargo will come into full force on July 1. The EU also banned sales of gold, diamonds and precious metals from Iran.

The international society demands a stop to uranium enrichment to 20% and closing of the Fordo facility. Spokesman of the Chinese Foreign Ministry Hong Lei said that Iran has the right for peaceful nuclear developments according to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation treaty.
