Georgia is the sixth in the list of Global Retail Development Index (GRDI) of 2012. Georgia is ahead of Brazil, Chili, China, Uruguay and India. Azerbaijan is 17th in the list, Kazakhstan 19th, Russia 26th, Business Georgia reports.

The Georgian GDP has been increasing by 2% annually since 2007. Private consuming has increased by 7.4% annually in the last decade.

Standard & Poor;s improved Georgia’s rating from BB- to B+. Georgia and the EU signed a free trade agreement in December.

Georgia has numerous supermarkets. Populi opened 20 markets in the last 2 years and plans to open over 20 this year.

Auchan (France) purchased Goodwill hypermarkets, Carrefour will open its first hypermarket Tbilisi Mall. Inditext in Tbilisi will join the deal on franchise with Retail Group Georgia in 2012.

Peacocks, De Salitto, Giovane Gentile and Geox are new brands in Georgia. Mango, Sisley, Benetton, Mexx and Gerry Weber are more notable. Gap will enter after prolongation of the partnership agreement with Al Hokair.

GRDI evaluates the top 30 developing states according to their retail sales. Georgia, Oman, Azerbaijan and Mongolia are the new attractive states with retail sales.
