Kyrgyzstan initiates talks on Russian military base

Kyrgyzstan plans to increase the price for leasing the three Russian military bases on its territory in 2014, Kyrgyz Defense Minister General-Major Taalaybek Omuraliyev said today, RIA Novosti reports.


Another Russian military base Kant operates for the CSTO, but its lease price will increase too. Kyrgyzstan pays for its utility services. It lease dosts 300 million soms annually (1 ruble = 1.3 soms).


Russia has a base for underwater tests in Karakol, a communication center in Kara-Balta, a radio and seismological laboratory in Mayly-Suu.


The Russian Defense Ministry paid its $15.5 million debt off for renting military facilities in March. Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev reminded about the debt during his visit to Moscow.
