Georgia permits casino construction at Russian border

A casino will be built in the Kazbegi District on the Russian-Georgian border, approved by Georgian Prime Minister Ivane (Vano) Merabishvili, News Georgia reports.

The casino will be free from annual taxes.

Georgian casinos pay about $3 million annually. There are exceptions of about $61,000.

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili visited the Kazbegi District in April 2012. He observed the Kazbegi-Verkhny Lars post on the border with Russia, visited the district center of Stepantsmind where the Kazbegi Hotel will be built with 156 rooms and visited the medical center.
