Turkmenistan to search for new hydrocarbon reserves

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov ordered more active searches for oil and gas reserves, Trend reports.

Oil and gas extraction, diversification of export and modernization of the fuel and energy complex are the priority goals, the president noted.

Berdimuhamedov visited Turkey on February 28 – March 1 and noted great discoveries awaiting at a forum in Istanbul.

BP says that Turkmenistan has the world’s fourth largest gas reserves, after Russia, Iran and Qatar.

The largest reserves are in the Mariyskaya Region south of Southern Yeloten – Osman and Yashlar with 26.2 trillion cubic meters of gas, according to GCA.

According to information on October 1, 2011, Turkmenistan had 71.21 billion tons of hydrocarbons. Most of it was underground (over 53 billion tons), the rest offshore (18.2 billion tons).
