Cash shortage in Syria

Many banks face the problem of a shortage of cash in Syria, the representative of the UN High Commissioner on Refugees, Melissa Fleming, told journalists today. “I have received a report which says that state and private banks lack cash. I have no information whether this concerns all banks or not,” Fleming stated, Interfax reports.

The banking crisis will affect citizens of Syria, as well as refugees. The cash shortage has led to the fact that it costs $100 to spend a night in the country.

The budget deficit is caused by international sanctions and the internal crisis.
