TAP may connect to TANAP or ITG

The Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) to transport Azerbaijani gas to Europe may be connected to the Trans-Anatolia Pipeline (TANAP) or Interconnector Turkey-Greece) ITG), head of the TAP section for foreign affairs and communications Michael Hoffman told Trend on Tuesday.

TAP signed a deal on technical cooperation with the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijani Republic (SOCAR) last month and a deal on forming a consortium for development of the Shah Deniz Field.

The Azerbaijani-Turkish deal on TANAP means building a pipeline that would be connected to TAP to transport gas to Europe through Greece.

TAP is to transport gas from the Caspian Sea to southern Italy and Western Europe through Greece, Albania, Adriatic Sea. EGL (Switzerland) has 42.5% of shares in the project Statoil (Norway) has 42.5%, E.ON Ruhrgas 15%. The pipeline will be about 800 km long, have a capacity of 10 billion cubic meters annually and may further be extended to 20 billion.

The Shah Deniz Consortium chose TAP as the priority route to export Azerbaijani gas to Italy this year. Nabucco West is the only project to transport gas within the second stage of Shah Deniz development to Central Europe. The final decision will be made in 2013.
