Azerbaijan provided Belarus with a $200 million loan for 12 days to
pay for Russian gas supplies, presidential press-secretary of
Azerbaijan, Azer Gasymov, said on Tuesday.
Premier of Belarus Sergey Sidorskiy applied to Azerbaijani Premier
Artur Rasi-zade on June 21st for a short-term loan. President Ilkham
Aliyev agreed to provide the loan, Gasymov said in an interview to
Trend.
Gazprom started limiting gas supplies to Belarus on June 21st due to
Belarus' debt. Within 2 days the limits reached 60% of the planned
supply. Gazprom said that Minsk owes $190 million because it paid less
for the gas than stipulated in the contract. On June 23rd Minsk said
that they had transferred $187 million.
On June 24th Gazprom said that the debt was cleared and gas supplies
were fully restored.
