The first ship has entered the new Iranian port of Astara, Iran News reports. The vessel has a displacement of 3.5 thousand tons.
Head of the Ports and Maritime Organization of Gilan province, Mantasser Kuhsari, said that the official opening of the port of Astara
will be held during the celebration of Government Week (held in Iran in late August).
Approximately $20 million was invested by private investors in the construction of the first part of the port.
In the first phase, the volume of loading and unloading operations at the port of Astara should be about 600 thousand tons of cargo annually. It will take another 5 years to complete the second part of the port.
