Uzdunrobita, the Uzbek daughter of Russian mobile phone operator MTS,
intends to appeal against the annulation of its licenses in Uzbekistan, Interfax reports.
A court in Tashkent has annuled all the licenses of the mobile phone
operator Uzdunrobita, The case against Uzdunrobita was initiated by the
local regulator, the Uzbek Agency for Communications. From now on MTS has
no business in Uzbekistan.
The Uzbek Agency for Communications claims that Uzdunrobita did not have a
right to provide communication services in Uzbekistan, because its
regional branches did not have proper licenses. Only the central
company had the license, while the branches did not. The regulator
believes that by its illegal activity Uzdunrobita deprived the state
of $210 million.
