Georgia starts construction of Tbilisi-Rustavi Highway

 

Construction of the Tbilisi-Rustavi Highway with extension to the Azerbaijani border has started, Trend reports.

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili said that the highway will make a trip from Rustavi to Tbilisi take only 7 minutes.

Up to 2,000 people will be building the 17-km highway and should take 2 years.

The highway may connect Baku and Batumi in the future.

Construction is supervised by the Georgian Ministry for Regional Development and Infrastructure, financed by the Fund for Municipal Development, the Asian Development Bank and the Georgian government. The highway will have a lifespan of 32 years.
