Quarantine imposed in south Russia over swine flu

The Krasnodar Territory has imposed a two-month quarantine today to stop the African swine flu from spreading, Vice Governor Eduard Kutygin said, RIA Novosti reports.

Special commissions will inspect transported meat products.

The African swine flu (Montgomery disease) was discovered in South Africa in 1903. Animals get infected through physical contact. The disease is of no threat to people, but it causes great economic losses because it cannot be vaccinated.
