Ivan Dorosh, Deputy Minister of the Agriculture and Food Industry of Krasnodar Region, said that Kuban landowners are hoping to collect one million tons of rice, Kazakh-Zerno reports.
The total area of land used for rice crops in Krasnodar Territory remained the same as last year - 133,000 hectares. Some farms have already started to be prepared for harvest. The harvesting itself will start in a week.
More than 20 varieties of rice culture grow in Krasnodar Territory alone. Every year there are new varieties with higher yields and endurance. Kuban is considered to be the leading region in the production of this crop in Russia.
In 2011, Kuban farmers harvested a record harvest of grain - 11.5 million tons, including 7.4 million tons of durum wheat. About 940 thousand tons have been collected and 9,000,000 tons of sugar beets.
