Turkmenistan offers mediation in disputes of Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan

Turkey offers to be a mediator in the dispute over the Kyapaz Field between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan in the Caspian Sea, 1news.az reports.

Turkey, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and the European commissioner for energy discussed the issue.

Russia, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan have signed agreements on border of the Caspian Sea. Turkmenistan and Iran have not reached an agreement yet.

Turkmenistan halted all negotiations with Baku on the problem in the 1990s. The Kyapaz Field is located on the border of Turkmen and Azerbaijani sectors of the sea. It contains 150 million barrels of oil. Turkmenistan plans to file a lawsuit to the International Court of Justice. The Trans-Caspian Pipeline cannot be built until the problem is settled.
