Switzerland to help Azerbaijan develop non-petroleum economy

The Swiss government will grant Azerbaijan about $70 million, Swiss Ambassador to Azerbaijan Sabina Ulman-Shaban said signing a deal on technical assistance for modernization of the Azerbaijani capital market, Trend reports.

The ambassador expressed hope that the bill on securities would be passed soon and expressed confidence in the positive development of cooperation with Azerbaijan.

The Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) makes investments in Azerbaijani economy.

SECO grants $4-6 million and SDC invests $2 million annually.

SECO opened an office in Azerbaijan in 2002 to assist with the development of economic reforms. This includes stimulation of the financial sector, private business and support for the Azerbaijani government in macroeconomics.
